HistoryThe history of the Hotel 't Spijker in Beek covers a period of two and a half centuries. According to tradition, a Jansen opened an inn with rooms here in 1751. Now, in 2003, the business has grown into a charming hotel. Much has changed over that time. There have been wars, looting, discoveries and inventions. If the hotel walls could only speak, they would create a history book packed with fascinating information. The hotel was rebuilt in 1909 to suit the requirements of the time. During the war, it was occupied by prisoners of war. After a further period of rebuilding, Spijker was again ready for business at the end of 1947, beginning of 1948. In 1959, 1976, 1987 and 2001, the hotel was refurbished to include every modern comfort and convenience. Yet you can still feel the grandeur of days gone by; the understated interior is full of class and the many paintings by artists who stayed at the hotel long ago generate a very special feeling.
